Identification of a suitable milk-derived product, the consumption of which could prevent vitamin B12 deficiency
IMPROVIT is an Indo-Danish strategic research collaboration within Human Health Science Biotechnology, funded by The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India and the Innovation Fund, Denmark.
IMPROVIT comprises multidisciplinary research from basic science to medical applications and entails a close collaboration between hospitals, academia, industry, and non-governmental organization. The participants include: 1) From India; Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Pathology Laboratory, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center, Pune, 2) from Denmark; Department of Clinical Medicine, Biochemistry, Aarhus University Hospital, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Arla Foods Ingredients Group P/S, and the International NGO, The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition Nordic Partnership.
IMPROVIT investigates the bioavailability of vitamin B12 in ruminant milk and aims to develop a tailored nutrient from low-cost co-products of the dairy industry, able to mitigate vitamin B12 deficiency caused by socio-economic constraints in the developing world.
The IMPROVIT project started April 1st 2015 and is planned to run until March 31st 2018.
